Victorian Young Leaders to China

Virtual 2025 Program

The Department of Education is inviting Expressions of Interest from schools to participate in the Victorian Young Leaders China Virtual Program 2025 with the opportunity to inspire and empower your Year 9 and 10 students studying Mandarin.

Join us for a dynamic two-week online journey designed to immerse your students in the language and culture of China.

Hosted by Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) and Meg Languages, this program promises an exciting and immersive experience.

The Victorian Young Leaders to China (VYLC) program is a highly successful legacy initiative proudly run by the Victorian Department of Education. This year, it continues to offer an exciting and immersive opportunity for Year 9 students across Victoria to explore Chinese language and culture.
Over two engaging weeks (August 18–29), selected students will:

  • Learn Mandarin with expert teachers from Beijing Language and Culture University
  • Join a virtual school exchange with students in China
  • Explore the Great Wall of China in a collaborative 3D gaming environment
  • Take part in an Amazing Race-style adventure through Melbourne’s Chinatown

During the two-week program, it is essential that the school provide a supervising teacher to actively oversee students during all sessions. Ideally, the school would also arrange a quiet space (e.g. a separate classroom) where participating students can engage in the virtual activities without interruption.

Most sessions will take place virtually on the school campus, with the exception of one optional half-day excursion to Melbourne’s Chinatown.

Schools interested in learning more are welcome to contact Meg’s team with any questions. Upon successful application, individual onboarding sessions can be arranged to support participating schools.

This unique program is limited to just 100 students across Victoria, so don’t miss this incredible opportunity!

The majority of the program will be conducted online with students based on their respective campuses with the optional addition for students to attend the Amazing Race activities in person.
