How Meg’s Language Lessons Go Beyond Traditional Teaching
At Meg, we believe that learning another language can open the door to different cultures and experiences that might not be explored otherwise. Our lessons spark curiosity about language and culture, but some schools take it a step further, creating immersive experiences that bring these cultures to life for students.
And St Aidan’s Primary School in Australia did just that when they hosted their own Spanish-Speaking Country Exhibition!
Bringing Spanish-Speaking Cultures to Life
In an effort to expand their knowledge of Spanish language and culture, Year 4 students at St Aidan’s split into groups and selected a Spanish-speaking country to research. They then presented their findings through a variety of mediums, including food, dance, song and sports. Even better: our Spanish language teachers from Colombia were able to join via Zoom to watch the presentations!
Students representing Mexico prepared tacos, churros, and nachos while students representing Cuba focused on sharing facts about Cuba’s flag and history. The group of students assigned to Argentina chose to highlight the significance of fútbol (soccer) in their presentation.
In addition to these countries, students at St Aidan’s also researched countries like Spain, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Cuba and El Salvador.
“Learning Spanish opens the minds of our Year 4 students at St Aidan’s Primary School to a rich culture and a world of connections. Each lesson brings us closer to understanding and appreciating the beauty of the language. We thoroughly enjoy every session with our Spanish teachers, Wendy and Catalina. A big thank you to Molly and our Spanish teachers for this wonderful experience!”

The Impact
This event at St Aidan’s brought the entire school community together. Throughout the day, students from other year levels had the opportunity to visit stalls, ask questions, and participate in activities to learn about these different countries. Parents and families were also invited to attend the showcase and hear their children use some of the Spanish they’ve been learning in their Meg lessons!
