Developing Globally Competent Schools

Designed by Lottie Dowling, Going Global Manager

How might we build a whole school culture for Global Competence?

How might schools design an eco-system that makes connections to Global Learning across the curriculum and school, breaking down silos and creating a shared vision for, and commitment to, Globally Competent students?

How might we build on existing language and culture programs to create rich and meaningful connections across the curriculum and school to provide deep learning experiences for students?

Welcome to the Globally Competent School.

Going Global – Globally Competent Schools is a Professional Development Course designed for participants interested in exploring ‘how to’ transform a school into a ecosystem of connected Global Learning, using a practical approach. It includes theory and ideas about globalisation and how it is relevant to internationalisation and Global Competence.

It introduces Meg’s Going Global – Globally Competent Schools Framework. The core ideas in the framework are explored in the different modules and lessons, with tasks set up to assist participants to reflect on their own school contexts and help identify the relevant steps towards internationalising. Practical tips and resources are included throughout the course to assist participants’ plan to ‘go global’. Additional resource sheets are embedded in the lessons and can be used as reference documents or printed off to complete tasks set.

The course comprises of four modules and each module contains related lessons. The course is designed to be completed at your own pace, with materials able to be accessed as many times as needed. The course’s key content is designed to take approximately 5 hours to complete, however, several lessons have additional materials that are optional. The course is self paced and can be completed in sections that best suit your schedule, however, is designed in a linear fashion.

At the end of the course, participants will be emailed a certificate of completion for five hours of Professional Development in Global Education.

NOTE: This course was originally called ‘Internationalising Schools’. To keep in line with current best practice, this course has been redesigned and renamed and is now called ‘Developing Globally Competent Schools’. The term used throughout will generally be ‘Globally Competent Schools’. You may however, still find the term ‘internationalising schools’ referred to at times in videos.
